Privacy policy
What this site collects, what it does not, and the choices you have over advertising cookies.
The short version
The converter runs in your browser. Numbers you type are never sent anywhere. There are no accounts, no forms and no newsletter, so there is nothing for us to collect about you directly. The one thing that does involve third parties is advertising: Google serves the ads on this site and, subject to your choices, may use cookies or similar identifiers on your device.
Who is responsible
UnitSnap is published by Romeck LLC, which is the data controller for the limited processing described here. For anything in this policy, write to hello@unitsnap.online.
What you type into the converter
Values, units and any precision setting are handled entirely by JavaScript running in your browser. They are not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and they are not logged. If you share a link that carries a conversion in its address, that link contains whatever you chose to put in it, so treat it the way you would treat any link you send.
What the site stores on your device
Two preferences are kept in your browser's local storage: the light or dark theme, and the number of decimals to display. They stay on that device, are readable only by this site, and are never sent to a server. Clearing your browser's site data removes them and the site continues to work.
These are not cookies and are not used to identify or track you.
Hosting and server logs
Like any website, requests reach a hosting provider, which keeps short-lived technical logs that can include an IP address, the page requested, a timestamp and a browser identifier. These exist for security, abuse prevention and keeping the site running. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not combined with anything else.
Advertising
This site shows ads served by Google, including through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies or use similar device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- You can review and change what Google uses for ad personalisation at My Ad Center.
- Google explains its own handling of data from sites that use its services in its partner sites notice.
- Industry opt-out tools are available at optout.aboutads.info, the NAI opt-out and, in Europe, Your Online Choices.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, advertising cookies and similar identifiers that are not strictly necessary are used only where consent is required and has been given. Consent is requested and recorded through the consent message provided by Google's advertising service, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time from that message or through the Google controls linked above.
Where consent has not been given, or has been withdrawn, advertising may still appear but is limited to non-personalised ads. Those are selected from the content of the page and coarse location rather than from your browsing history.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which converters get used. It records things like the pages viewed, the referring site, approximate location derived from your IP address, and general device and browser type. Google processes this on our behalf.
Analytics cookies are set on your device for this purpose. They tell us how the site is used in aggregate; they are not used to identify you personally, and we do not attempt to link analytics data to any individual.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics storage is held back until consent is granted, using the same consent mechanism described under Advertising. Anywhere in the world you can opt out entirely with Google's browser add-on, or by blocking analytics in your browser or extensions.
Legal bases for processing
Where the UK or EU General Data Protection Regulation applies:
- Consent for advertising cookies and similar identifiers that are not strictly necessary.
- Legitimate interests for the short-lived server logs that keep the site available and defend it against abuse.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent you previously gave. To exercise any of these, email hello@unitsnap.online.
In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you, so the honest answer to most access requests is that there is no record to produce. Requests that concern advertising data held by Google are best directed to Google, and we will point you to the right place.
If you are in the EEA or the UK you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority, which in the United Kingdom is the Information Commissioner's Office.
California residents
We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies used on this site may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law. You can opt out using the advertising controls listed above, and browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal have that signal passed to the ad services the site loads.
California residents may also ask what categories of personal information are collected and request deletion. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
Children
This site is a general-audience reference tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, contact us and it will be removed.
International transfers
The hosting and advertising services this site relies on operate internationally, so data they process may be handled in a country other than your own, including the United States, under the safeguards those providers put in place.
Retention
We keep no user database. Hosting logs are retained by the provider for a short operational period and then discarded. Email you send us is kept only as long as needed to deal with it.
Changes to this policy
If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date below is updated. Material changes to how advertising or data collection works will be reflected here before they take effect.
